I don't even know what to say. I have been reflecting back on these last 6 (!!) years in college for the last month or so and I guess I'd say that it's been a rollercoaster. I honestly didn't have very much fun in college because I put my education before nearly everything... But if I had to do it again I would still do it the same way. It led me to my internship at Lucasfilm this summer, I met my amazing boyfriend, I grew immensely as a person, and I met some really cool friends.
My mentor Scott had a massive impact on me during this last year. I can thank him for nearly every way in which I grew as an animator this last year. He has introduced me to so many new ways of thinking and looking at animation and storytelling and I really couldn't thank him enough. He has always been there for me as my mentor and some of the most crazy and fun weeks I've had this year were the weeks when he would push me to have daily progress on my work and I had daily video chats with him critiquing that work. It's been incredible and I'm excited to continue to be mentored by him in the future :)
This school year as a whole has been the best year of my college experience because it was so liberating being fully in charge of our work and creativity. As for the senior portfolio portion of the school work, I really REALLY appreciate that my professor Raquel gave us complete freedom on what we choose to animate. Of course it had to be approved by her but one thing I really love about having her as a professor is that she has always worked with us to make our idea the best it can be. The reason why I even had a shot at getting my internship was because Lucasfilm was looking for cycles and biped and quadruped animation. The reason why I have both creature animation and cycles in my reel is because I really wanted to do them and Raquel let us :) I'm really glad that we had more of a choice in what we wanted to animate.
Well, it's been a crazy 6 years. Thanks for the education SJSU A/I and thanks for preparing me for the industry
