"I refuse to be made to feel bad! I don't have to be made to feel bad."
"Good for you."
"Stop it!"
For this dialogue shot I decided to pay homage to my family. On my dad's side, my grandpa, dad, and uncle were all in the Air Force. The Air Force has been a massive part of my family's story and history. My grandfather going into the Air Force is what allowed my dad to have greater opportunities than he would have otherwise, and my dad going to the Air Force Academy and then into the Air Force did the exact same thing for me. I want to use this shot to pay homage to the opportunities that it has allowed me to have... like being able to follow my dreams to be an artist.
Setting
1997, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina
Story
T. Campbell is a female pilot who wants to support the country and is training to go to a war zone in the middle east. The 1993 Department of Defense assignment rule now allowed women to enter combat.
Campbell gets a visitor's pass for her brother to come to the flight line and see her fly. Her brother does not like the idea of her flying and potentially entering war. He's worried and upset that she is risking her life and starts arguing with her. Campbell wants to do this for her country and for women in the U.S. - for the greater good.
Research
To inform my shot, I talked to my dad, Andre Campbell, for several hours to make the scene as accurate as possible. My dad graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1981 and then went on to serve in the Air Force for 15 years drafting contracts for the Air Force's space division. While he did not become a pilot, at the Air Force Academy he had flight experience and was able to give me all the information I needed to inform my shot.
My character will be getting ready to fly an F - 15 fighter aircraft. The plane will be on the flight line and not in a hangar. Pilots are sometimes allowed to bring guests on the flight line near the planes but not too close. Campbell will be wearing a flight suit and will be carrying her jet pilot helmet.
