For my next senior portfolio assignment, I am going to do something a little different. I've always wanted to go into video games, but all of the animation we do in school is more for film. Since we have the freedom to choose our assignments this year, I want to use this to make a video game reel.
Instead of spending 5 weeks on one animation, I want to do 5 cycles and turn arounds - spending one week on each to do blocking, polish, and rendering. I want to push myself to get faster at animating since I know I am not nearly up to the speed of professionals.

Inspiration
My absolute dream job is to work for Insomniac Games. I have been playing video games since I was 7, but it wasn't until I played Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction at age 18 that I thought to combine my love of art and my love of games! That series has been incredibly inspiring for me as an artist and what I would like to achieve with my art, so I want to try to emulate their semi cartoony style of animation for this project.

Animators at Insomniac Games
While trying to find video game reels as reference, I started trying to find animation reels from animators at Insomniac Games. I started looking through my notes from CTN 3 years ago where I talked to a concept artist that worked at Insomniac. From there I found two names and from there I found even more on the internet.

Timeline
6 weeks
1 - Planning
2 - Idle and idle break
3 - Run
4 - Double jump
5 - Melee attack
6 - Dodge/ Dive
The reason why I am specifically doing this video game reel right now is because Friday of week 6 is the first day of CTN so I should have at least 4 rendered animations done to show professionals when I go!!

Description of Character and Story
The character I will be animating will act as the main character of a video game. Since the player will have control over the character, I wanted to animate a variety of common animations that a character of a 3D third person platformer might have.

Environment and Prop Ideas
I want my animations to look sleek and clean, so I want to render it out with ambient lighting and light grey backgrounds. I also want to do some video editing so that the final video is a turn around right next to a cycle where the camera is fixed.
