I'm now on winter break and I have definitely learned a few things...
I made the mistake of not scheduling in a break in the production schedule. I spread myself pretty thin during finals so that plus stress from feeling pressure to keep working even though I was really tired led to me getting burned out. My dad reminded me that I am "not a robot" so after resisting, I succumbed to a break and now I feel completely refreshed!

Animation:
- I have two new animators on board! Kevin Maier and Faranak Keshmiri!
- I just learned about mood boards and created a few for the first time! I created a folder on the google drive with two mood boards (environment and character) in addition to a bunch of gifs, a document with a character description, and music. Hopefully this will help the other animators get a better idea of my character and the sort of mood I am going for.
- I also retimed my animatic for the other animators.. But I am thinking about changing some things haha.
- I need to find more modelers! I don't know many modelers so I am having a hard time finding people.
- When I revisited the previs that I had already done, I realized that I needed to redo some of them... I actually may end up having to redo all of the previs I have done so far. The scale of Ahmi was way bigger than the rest of the rigs and so the environment had to be even bigger! When things are too large in Maya it gets very difficult to see it so it is worth redoing. I'm at least glad I figured that out before I got too far :/ At this point I am just trying to move.
- Honestly, every single environment ideation helped me figure out exactly what I wanted and what I didn't want. After looking at everything, I was able to sketch out the exact environment I wanted. Since we are behind schedule, to speed up the process I have been working with Brandon to solidify that environment. I have a rough sketch right now and this week I am hoping to tighten up that painting so that next week we can start on the background paintings!
- While Brandon does the environment, I assigned everyone else to help me ideate the colors and patterns on Ahmi's clothing.
- I have an awesome update on the music :) So Brandon is currently interning at Tonko House and a few weeks ago they had an end of the year party! Luckily he was allowed to bring a plus 1 so I got to tag along. At the party I met the guy who did the music for Tonko House's current short "Moom". While talking I mentioned that I was working on a short and he said that I could come by and show him my work! I've been in contact with him and I hope to meet up with him soon! Best case scenario I could work with him to create music for my short. But even if I don't, it would be amazing to learn about the process of creating music for short films from a professional!
